EUDR due diligence statement
A due diligence statement is what an operator files before placing a covered commodity on the European Union market. It records the geolocation of the plots the goods came from and confirms the operator has assessed and mitigated the risk that they are linked to deforestation or illegal production.
The essentials.
- Who files it
- The operator placing the goods on the EU market. In a normal import that is the buyer.1
- Where
- In TRACES NT, the Commission's own system.1
- What goes in it
- Geolocation of the plots of land, supplier information, and confirmation that risk was assessed and mitigated where it was more than negligible.1
- From when
- 30 December 2026 for large operators, 30 June 2027 for small and medium ones.1
- Indonesian goods
- Indonesia is classified standard risk, so the simplified route is closed and the full assessment applies.2
What it does not cover.
Your supplier cannot file it for you
The obligation attaches to the operator placing goods on the EU market. What comes from the Indonesian side is the underlying evidence: the plots, the chain of custody and the documents behind them.
A certificate is not a substitute
No Indonesian certificate discharges it, and no third-party scheme replaces the statement itself. Certification can support the risk assessment behind it, and that is a different role.
Questions buyers ask.
What counts as a large operator?
The split follows EU company size definitions, and it decides which of the two dates applies to you. If you are close to the boundary, take the earlier date as your working assumption and plan the evidence collection to it.
How far back does the traceability have to go?
To the plots of land where the commodity was produced. For a smallholder crop like Indonesian coffee that means through the collector and the cooperative to the farms, which is the part of the job worth starting early.
Where this comes up.
Indonesian coffee
Arabica and robusta origins, wet-hulling, how the national standard grades a lot, packing, and the documents a buyer needs including EUDR.
Indonesian teak furniture
Where it is built, what the trade grade letters actually mean, the mandatory V-Legal document, and why SVLK alone no longer answers the EU.
EUDR and Indonesian goods
What the EU Deforestation Regulation covers, the 30 December 2026 deadline, Indonesia's standard-risk classification, and why an SVLK certificate does not answer it.
What changes on 1 January 2027
Indonesia leaves the EU's Generalised Scheme of Preferences, and that part is already law. The trade agreement meant to replace it still needs three approvals. What an EU buyer should check now.
