Four categories, four different regimes.
What Indonesia exports splits into four groups that have almost nothing in common on paperwork. Seafood is the heaviest regulated, wood carries legality documents, agriculture carries plant health, and essential oils travel as chemicals rather than as food.
Agriculture and food

Spices, coffee, cocoa, coconut and starch. What the category has in common: plant health, mould toxins and a chain full of smallholders.
Furniture, wood and rattan

Teak, rattan, panels and homeware. Timber legality, moisture content and a workshop structure that decides how an order behaves.
Seafood

The heaviest regulation on this site. Approved establishments, catch certificates, cold chain and residues, and where each one is decided.
Essential oils and personal care

Patchouli, clove, nutmeg, vetiver and more. Contracted on composition, adulterated more than any other category, and shipped as chemicals.
Why the split matters.
A buyer who has imported Indonesian furniture successfully knows almost nothing useful about importing Indonesian seafood. The producers are different, the authorities are different, and the documents share no overlap beyond the invoice and the bill of lading. Experience in one category transfers badly to another, and buyers who assume otherwise are the ones surprised by a held container.
The regulatory weight also differs enormously. Seafood carries an approved establishment, a health certificate, a catch certificate for wild-caught product into Europe and residue testing on every lot. A rattan chair carries a legality document and a treatment mark on the pallet. Both are Indonesian exports and they are not comparable undertakings.
What the four do share is the Indonesian side: many small producers, a chain with several hands in it, and paperwork that has to be built rather than requested. That is the part where somebody on the ground earns their fee, and it is the same work whichever category you are in.
