Importing from Indonesia to Poland.

Poland was long served by trucking from Rotterdam and Hamburg. Direct Asian services calling at Gdańsk changed that, and for buyers in central and eastern Europe landing there now often beats landing in the west and driving.

Tariff treatment.

Indonesian goods currently enter the European Union under the Generalised Scheme of Preferences, with origin self-declared by a registered exporter. Indonesia leaves that scheme on 1 January 2027 and the agreement meant to replace it is not in force yet. It applies the same way in every member state, so it is written out once: what changes on 1 January 2027 →

Who you deal with on arrival.

Direct calls
Gdańsk receives direct services from Asia, which removed a transhipment leg that used to be unavoidable for the whole region.1
A gateway for its neighbours
Buyers in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and the Baltics increasingly land here rather than in the west, because the inland leg is shorter and cheaper.
Labelling in Polish
Consumer information has to reach the buyer in Polish, which is decided at production rather than in the warehouse.
A manufacturing market
A large furniture manufacturing base makes Poland a buyer of components and materials rather than only of finished goods.

Where it lands.

  • Gdańsk

The main Baltic container port and now a direct call on Asian services.

  • Gdynia

The second Baltic option, alongside Gdańsk and serving the same hinterland.

By category.

  • Coffee, cocoa and spices

A growing roasting and processing base. Plant health stream and prior notification apply, with EUDR from December 2026.

  • Furniture, wood and rattan

Poland is a furniture manufacturer, so demand runs to materials and components as much as to finished pieces. V-Legal and EUDR apply either way.

  • Seafood

Veterinary stream through an approved post, with a substantial processing industry behind it.

  • Essential oils and personal care

Chemical control rather than food. Italian buyers here are largely industrial rather than retail.

Questions buyers ask.

Is Gdańsk better than Rotterdam for a Polish buyer?

Increasingly yes, because the direct calls removed the transhipment and the inland leg is short. It is worth pricing both, because the sea rate and the trucking rate move independently.

What does Poland buy from Indonesia?

Materials as much as finished goods, because it manufactures rather than only consumes. That changes the conversation towards components, semi-finished timber and bulk material.

Can Czech or Slovak buyers clear here?

Yes, and many now do. Once released into free circulation the goods move on without further customs formalities, and the inland leg from Gdańsk beats the one from Rotterdam for much of central Europe.
