Halal certification (BPJPH)
Indonesia certifies halal through BPJPH, an agency under the Ministry of Religious Affairs, with audits carried out by accredited inspection bodies. Certification is being made mandatory in phases for products sold in Indonesia. For an exporter, the question is whether the destination recognises it.

- A halal certificate from another country can be recognised where its issuing body has a mutual recognition arrangement with BPJPH, after registration in the Indonesian system.1
Who asks for it.
Only these markets require it. Shipping the same goods anywhere else, the question does not arise.
What it does not cover.
Your market decides, not Indonesia
Gulf importers work to their own halal requirements and their own recognised certifiers. An Indonesian certificate is evidence, and whether it is accepted is a question for the destination rather than for the producer.
It is a process certification
It addresses ingredients, handling and the supply chain behind them. It says nothing about grade, specification or quality, which stay in your contract.
Questions buyers ask.
Does my Gulf buyer accept an Indonesian halal certificate?
Ask them, before production. Recognition between halal bodies is arranged bilaterally and it changes. A producer who says their certificate is accepted everywhere has not checked, and the place to settle it is with your importer's own authority.
Is halal certification relevant if I sell in Europe?
Only if your own customers ask for it. It is not a European regulatory requirement, and it appears in European supply chains as a commercial specification rather than a legal one.
