Solid wood or engineered panels.
Solid wood moves with humidity and can be shaped and repaired. Engineered panels stay flat and hold a veneer predictably. For furniture shipped from a tropical workshop to a heated interior, the choice is largely a choice about how much movement you can tolerate.

Which to choose.
- The edge is shown or shaped
- Solid, with a moisture target for your market.
- The panel is large and must stay flat
- Engineered, on emission class and face quality.
- You are laminating and price decides
- Barecore, and inspect a faced sample rather than a bare board.
- You want the material to be visible and honest
- Solid, and price the movement risk rather than pretending it is absent.
Questions buyers ask.
Which is more sustainable?
Engineered panels use more of the log and less of the best timber, which is a real efficiency argument. Both carry the same legality obligations, and neither claim is defensible without the documents behind it.
Can I mix them in one piece?
Most commercial furniture does: solid frames and engineered panels. It is normal construction rather than a compromise, and the specification should say which part is which.
Does solid wood always crack?
It moves, and whether that becomes a crack depends on construction and on moisture content at loading. A well-built piece at the right moisture behaves. A piece built wet does not, whatever the species.
