Plywood or barecore.

Plywood is thin veneers cross-laminated, so it is dimensionally stable and holds a screw poorly at the edge. Barecore is solid strips edge-glued into a board, so it machines and takes fixings like timber and moves like timber. The choice is between stability and workability.

Questions buyers ask.

Is barecore just cheap plywood?

It is a different construction with different properties. Barecore is solid wood, so it works like solid wood: it machines cleanly, takes fixings and moves with humidity. Plywood is engineered to stop moving and pays for it at the edge. Neither is a cheap version of the other.

Which is easier to buy from Indonesia?

Both are volume exports with plenty of producers. Barecore comes overwhelmingly from Java and albasia smallholdings, plywood from larger integrated mills. The mill size difference shows up in minimum order and in how easily plot-level traceability can be produced.

What is the single most common defect?

On plywood, core voids and overlaps that appear once a thin veneer goes on. On barecore, open joints and moisture content. In both cases inspecting a faced sample rather than the raw panel is what catches it before a production run.
