Lampung pineapple
Lampung produces nearly all of Indonesia's canned pineapple, from large integrated operations where the plantation and the cannery are the same business. Almost nothing else in Indonesian food export works this way, and the consistency shows.
What makes it different.
- Integrated production
- Fruit is grown, picked and processed by one operation, so it arrives at a known maturity within hours. Most Indonesian food supply is assembled from many smallholders and this is not.
- Several streams from one fruit
- Slices, chunks, crushed, juice and concentrate come off the same intake, which lets the operation absorb fruit variation that a standalone cannery could not.
- Scale
- Very large by Indonesian agricultural standards, with the laboratory and quality infrastructure that follows from it.
- Auditable
- A consequence of the structure: traceability from field to can is genuinely possible here in a way it rarely is elsewhere in Indonesian agriculture.
Getting it out.
- Panjang
- Lampung's own container port, close to the growing area, which removes a long inland leg.
- Weight before volume
- Canned goods in water or syrup are dense, so a container weighs out before it fills.
Questions buyers ask.
Why is Indonesian canned pineapple so consistent?
Because of this structure. When the plantation and the cannery are one operation, fruit maturity at intake is controlled rather than accepted, and that is what consistency in a can actually is.
Can I visit?
Large integrated operations generally receive buyers, and it is worth doing because the scale is hard to picture otherwise. Arrange it well in advance.
Is smallholder pineapple available?
Some, and it is a different proposition with different consistency and different traceability. For canned export volume the integrated operations are where the trade is.
What does your service cost?
Five per cent of the order value, paid by you and never by the factory. A factory audit starts at $250 depending on location. We work with orders from $10,000 per shipment.
