UKCA marking

UKCA is the British conformity marking that replaced CE for goods placed on the market in Great Britain under certain product regulations. It applies to regulated product categories, and most Indonesian furniture and homeware is not in one of them.

The essentials.

It applies to regulated categories
Products covered by specific British product regulations. General consumer goods outside those regulations follow the general safety regime instead.1
Great Britain, not the whole United Kingdom
Northern Ireland follows separate arrangements, which matters if you supply the whole country.
Conformity assessment is the substance
The marking is the visible end of an assessment process, technical documentation and a declaration of conformity.
It is not the same as CE
The regimes descend from a common ancestor and they have diverged. Assuming one covers the other is the recurring error.

Who asks for it.

Only these markets require it. Shipping the same goods anywhere else, the question does not arise.

What it does not cover.

  • Most craft and furniture is outside it

Decorative homeware, most furniture and craft goods are not in a regulated category and follow the general product safety regime. Buyers occasionally chase a marking they do not need.

  • It says nothing about timber legality

Wood products carry Britain's own timber regulation obligations separately, and a conformity marking does not touch them.

  • The Indonesian producer cannot self-declare for you

The obligation sits with whoever places the product on the British market. A factory declaration is an input to your file rather than a substitute for it.

Questions buyers ask.

Do I need UKCA on Indonesian furniture?

Usually not, because most furniture is outside the regulated categories that require it. What does apply is the general product safety regime plus timber legality. Check whether your specific product falls in a regulated category before arranging anything.

Can I use CE marking instead?

The position on accepting CE has changed over time and it is category-specific. Check the current rule for your product rather than relying on what was true when you last imported.

Who applies the marking?

Whoever places the product on the market takes responsibility for the conformity assessment and the declaration. An Indonesian producer can supply test data and documentation and cannot discharge your obligation.
