Importing from Indonesia to Kuwait.

Kuwait applies Gulf regional standards with its own national administration. For food and many consumer goods the conformity assessment happens before shipment, and halal certification from a recognised body applies alongside it.

Tariff treatment.

Indonesian goods currently enter the European Union under the Generalised Scheme of Preferences, with origin self-declared by a registered exporter. Indonesia leaves that scheme on 1 January 2027 and the agreement meant to replace it is not in force yet. It applies the same way in every member state, so it is written out once: what changes on 1 January 2027 →

Who you deal with on arrival.

Ministry of Commerce and Industry
Import requirements, standards and consumer protection are administered nationally, alongside the regionally agreed Gulf standards.1
Gulf standards, national administration
Common regional standards apply and each Gulf state runs its own conformity and market surveillance. A certificate for one member is not automatically usable in another.
Certification before shipment
Where a scheme requires conformity assessment before the goods leave, it cannot be arranged retrospectively.
Halal for food and more
Certification from a recognised body applies to food and, in several categories, beyond it.
Arabic labelling
Required for consumer products, and it has to be settled before production rather than after printing.

Where it lands.

  • Shuwaikh

The main container port serving Kuwait City.

  • Shuaiba

    The southern industrial port.

  • Jebel Ali

Frequently used as a transhipment point for Gulf-bound cargo.

By category.

  • Coffee, cocoa and spices

High per-head consumption and a developed retail market.

  • Furniture, wood and rattan

Retail, hospitality and residential demand, with product standards applying.

  • Seafood

Imported at volume, with health certification and halal requirements.

  • Personal care and essential oils

A substantial market with registration and halal questions attached.

Questions buyers ask.

Is one Gulf certificate enough for all six states?

No. The standards are largely common and the conformity procedures are national, so plan per destination.

When do I arrange conformity certification?

During production. Schemes requiring it before shipment cannot be satisfied once the container has sailed.

Does halal certification cover the standards requirement?

No, they are separate. Halal answers a religious compliance question and conformity answers a technical one.
