Importing from Indonesia to Croatia.
Croatia applies EU rules in full, with its own national administration. The coastline is long and the container capacity is modest, so many buyers clear through Koper or Trieste and bring the goods overland.
Tariff treatment.
Indonesian goods currently enter the European Union under the Generalised Scheme of Preferences, with origin self-declared by a registered exporter. Indonesia leaves that scheme on 1 January 2027 and the agreement meant to replace it is not in force yet. It applies the same way in every member state, so it is written out once: what changes on 1 January 2027 →
Who you deal with on arrival.
- National food safety administration
- Food safety and veterinary control are administered nationally within the EU framework, and the national service is the contact point for import conditions.1
- Ports serve the country more than the region
- Rijeka is the main container port and its hinterland traffic is smaller than Koper's. Compare both before assuming the domestic port is cheapest.
- Tourism drives a lot of demand
- Hospitality and food service along the coast buy differently from a retail chain, in smaller quantities at higher specification.
- EU rules, national administration
- Union food law, product safety and customs apply, administered by Croatian authorities.
Where it lands.
Rijeka
The main container port, with rail and road inland.
Ploče
A southern port serving Bosnia and the region.
Koper
Frequently the practical entry, with an overland leg into Croatia.
By category.
Coffee, cocoa and spices
Roasting and food manufacturing, with strong per-head coffee consumption.
Furniture, wood and rattan
A domestic wood industry, so imports run to tropical species and finished pieces for hospitality.
Seafood
Its own Adriatic fishery, so imports are specific and border control applies at entry.
Personal care and essential oils
EU cosmetic requirements apply, with tourism-driven demand for spa and hotel supply.
Questions buyers ask.
Should I ship to Rijeka or Koper?
Price both. Rijeka is Croatian and Koper often has better service frequency and inland connections. The difference is real enough to check per shipment.
Is hospitality demand worth targeting?
For furniture, homeware and food service supply, yes. Coastal hotel projects buy in matched sets against completion dates, which is a different sale from retail.
Do I need a Croatian importer?
You need an importer of record established in the EU, which does not have to be Croatian. Where it sits affects your customs and compliance obligations.
